ING = Capital One

Just read on Facebook that ING Direct USA has sold itself to the devil, Capital One.

I really, REALLY liked ING. Sure, it wasn't the high high interest saving account it used to be, but I don't have to have a minimum to earn the 1.00%, it's harder for me transfer the money and use it, ergo, I'm actually SAVING my money.

Now that Capital One has bought them, I don't want to be a part of it, so I'm trying to figure out what to do with our savings account. According to the press release they will keep the 'ING' look for 1 year. I will leave it for now, but as soon as I start to see ANY changes, our money will be transferred and the account will be closed.

So if any of you have ING and were not aware, there you go.

Yuck! I hope that it hasn't/doesn't happen in Canada as well. I just switched to their chequing account too! I will have to look into this.

It's only ING Direct USA. ING Canada is safe :)

Thanks for the info! Hopefully Capital One keeps the company the same since it's so great.

I hope so, but everyone on Facebook has pretty much commented that they are leaving! I'll stay for now, since we're only using the savings account for our emergency fund and downpayment for our house. If they start doing their typical Cap One stuff, we'll put it in one of our Credit Union savings accounts which pays at 0.75%

I am not very happy either. I will sat as long as it stays the same, but I have a feeling that won't happen.

Oh, yuck... I read the news on that briefly, and was looking into opening an account for them, but I guess I wont. Sigh.

Why does everyone hate Capital One so much? I had a credit card with them for years and never had any problems. The interest rate was high, but I never felt they were unfair. It does seem like a lot of people hate them.
